The new European norms, with reference to the seating position at the workstation equipped with video terminals, foresee 3 parts:
EN 1335 – 1 indicates dimensions and how they have to be determined.
EN 1335 – 2 indicates safety requirements in general, regarding mechanisms, adjustment, stability, resistance and durability.
EN 1335 – 3 indicates safety test methods: stability, seat - back of seat fatigue, armrests, castors, etc.
According to the results deriving from those tests and on the basis of the demanded requirements, office chairs may be divided into:
TYPE A seating with the most strict dimensional requirements as well as of adjustability: minimum adjustability interval in height between 400 and 510, seat depth adjustable only: between 400 and 420, seat inclination adjustable only, lumbar support height adjustable only: between 170 and 220, back of seat adjustable only
TYPE B seating with intermediate requirements: minimum adjustability interval in height between 420 and 510, fixed seat depth or adjustable between 380 and 440, fixed seat inclination or adjustable, fixed lumbar support height or adjustable ( as per Law Decree 626 170-220), back of seat adjustable only. In order to apply the
Law Decree 626 relative to work places for video terminals, a seating in compliance at least with type B of the norm and with lumbar support adjustable only is required.
TYPE C seating with minimal dimensional requirements: minimal adjustability interval in height between 420 and 480, fixed seat depth or adjustable (400 minimum), fixed seat inclination or adjustable, fixed lumbar support height or adjustable (excursion not required), back of seat inclination without requirements. |
